Amber & Leon - The Woodlands at hothorpe

This is an extra special blog post today, as it features our director Lesley's best friend Amber and her lovely new husband Leon. Eeeeekkkk! So brace yourself for lots of gorgeous photos and tonnes of details about the set up.

A & L were married at one of our absolute favourite venues, The Woodlands at Hothorpe Hall and Lesley herself was not only the chosen stylist & florist for the wedding but she was also one of Amber's bridesmaids! Super exciting!

It was all a bit of a juggle but Lesley entrusted the majority of the styling on the day to the wider team with Katherine & Maria leading the set up. K focussing on the styling details of the indoors & the ceremony space whilst M focussed on creating the most gorgeous floral arrangement for the hideaway. Lesley however, couldn't keep away so kept nipping back down to the venue inbetween bridal prep, hair & make up to take a peek.

Amber & Leon booked our bespoke full styling service and asked Team Rustic to create the wedding of their dreams using the most gorgeous colour palette of burnt orange, olive green with the addition of A's favourite flower - the sunflower, featuring quite heavily.

Over to Amber to tell us more about their day...

Tell us a little bit about your wedding...?

We got married at the gorgeous Woodlands at Hothorpe in Leicestershire - I am quite outdoorsy and I fell in love with the woodland part of the venue, whilst Leon fell in love with the luxury interior of the venue. We found it to be the perfect combination venue to match our personalities so we booked it as soon as we visited for an open day.

We also loved that we could take our 2 dogs with us on the day, Mowgli and Chip, this made our wedding extra special.

As you can see, the Dogs really were the absolute stars of the show, they sat beautifully during the ceremony, enjoyed a few ice cream treats from Jennie Ice Cream and posed for stunning photos with the bridesmaid flowers - we just LOVE these photos.

How would you describe your wedding ceremony?

We didn't want a traditional, boring ceremony and met with the lovely Jo from My Perfect Ceremony after she was recommended to us by Lesley. We chose a wonderful Hand Fasting ceremony which allowed us to have the quirky and intimate celebration that we had always dreamed of. We also got to use Artic Monkeys lyrics for our vows!

During the hand fasting ceremony, all of the groomsmen and bridesmaids were invited to place a coloured ribbon over the happy couple's hands, with each one having a symbolic meaning.

Once all of the ribbons were placed and the vows were spoken, Amber & Leon pulled the ribbons together to officially "tie the knot" - if you want to know more about hand fasting then please do head over the My Perfect Cermony website.

Tell us about your decor… why did you choose your theme?

We chose burnt oranges, greens and golds with added sunflowers to create sun goddess vibes.

The ceremony aisle was lined with tall gold lanterns & orange & green meadow floral arrangments to lead the eye to the Hideaway structure at the end. The Hideaway was draped with white chiffon fabric and was framed by a gorgeous fresh floral installation.

Inside the venue, dogs were a big theme with mini dogs sitting on the wedding cake and all of the different family dogs being used as table numbers.

We styled the top table with an olive green waterfall drape, gold beaded glass charger plates and textured & knotted burnt orange napkins. Kraft menus & simple calligraphy place names finished off the look. Amber & Leon donated a sum to the Dogs Trust and for their wedding favours they had cute little dog pin badges for everyone.

For the guest tables we added a ruffled olive green table runner as the base, tall gold candlesticks with coloured Ester & Erik dinner candles and a trio of glass bud vases to display those super important sunflower blooms. Crystal cut tea light votives added a touch of romantic light to the lower level of the centrepiece and really finished off the design.

What was your favourite part of the day?

The ceremony by far, it was just so special. There was so much laughter and it was so personalised. It didn't feel rushed and Jo did an amazing job.

The cake made by Leon's sister and little mushroom village was also pretty epic.

Any top tips for engaged couples?

Don't stress so much, you'll just be happy to be getting married on the day.

And maybe do the speeches before food, I couldn't eat a thing because of the nerves!

Why did you choose Team Rustic?

With Lesley being one of my best friends, I knew there was nobody else that i'd rather have to style my day and make my wedding flowers. The team were amazing and really did focus on all the little details. Everything was just perfect - and totally stress free!
